ٱلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ ٱللَّٰهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

Effective immediately, Nueces Mosque’s onsite operations will be suspended until further notice, this includes access to any facilities on the premises.

We’ve been notified that a community member who was recently on-site has tested positive for COVID-19. The community member has been instructed to notify any congregants they may have come into contact with, as well as share with us the specific facilities they utilized while on-site.

For all community members, whether you attend on-site programming or not, we advise that you regularly monitor your symptoms and get tested as needed to mitigate any continued spread of the virus.

Please visit: https://www.austintexas.gov/covid-testinfo for information on testing.

As an effort to ensure members can utilize our facilities safely, we will be closing the property for a minimum of two weeks for thorough sanitization and to reconcile any additional safety measures that need to be administered.

Please be mindful that the COVID-19 situation in Austin, TX has risen to Stage 4, therefore, in addition to closing the premises for a minimum two weeks, it is advised that COVID-19 protocols are adhered to beyond Nueces Mosque, as recommended by local health professionals.

Although these are unfortunate circumstances, we will be making an active effort to restore operations on-site safely by taking the following immediate steps:

1) Thorough cleaning and sanitization of all medium to high-touch facilities on site.
2) Consult with local health professionals and advisers to ensure all measures have been considered as we continue to improve our on-site procedures.

Although on-site programming is suspended, we encourage all of our members to take advantage of the dynamic virtual programming Nueces Mosque has to offer, via our social media channels. For alternative Jummah options, please consider visiting ICGA or any other Austin area Masjids that are in proximity to you; please review their respective Jummah guidelines prior to attending.

Please keep each other in your duas as we navigate this pandemic. May Allah (swt) grant continued health and wellness to you and your family. Ameen.

ٱلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ ٱللَّٰهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

The Nueces Executive Committee and the Board of Directors have been working in coordination with local scholars, medical professionals, as well as various community members to decide what the best course of action is in regard to reopening the mosque. After assessing the climate, the EC and BOD have decided that the prayer hall will now be opened for one Jum’uah prayer in addition to daily Maghrib and Ishaa prayers. Currently, Nueces Mosque will only be opening for these specific prayers with strict guidelines for our community members and volunteers to follow to ensure their own health and safety. This decision is not indefinite as we are continuing to assess the situation and may decide to close the mosque again if we feel our community members are at a greater risk.

Although the prayer hall will be open, all other facilities of the property, including the bathroom and wudu areas, the sisters & brothers study spaces, the library, courtyard, kitchen, conference room, and all other areas are to remain closed until further notice. This is to ensure that aside from prayer, there are no other activities taking place at Nueces.

Please take the proper steps as recommended by the CDC when attending Nueces for prayer including:

1. Register online and sign a waiver in order to attend prayers: https://tickettailor.com/events/nuecesmosque
2. Wear a mask at all times
3. Perform wudu before coming to the masjid
4. Bring your own prayer rug
5. Keep a safe distance of 6 ft from others
6. Avoid attendance if you are experiencing any symptoms or are immunocompromised due to any other illness
7. Avoid attendance if you are below the age of 13 or over the age of 65
8. Must have a safe body temperature of 98-98.9 degrees
9. Avoid interaction with other community members
10. Avoid drinking or eating inside the prayer hall
11. Leave the property immediately after the prayer

These guidelines are in place for the safety and well-being of everyone and we hope you will cooperate with us in ensuring these are being respected and followed. Please read through the guidelines thoroughly when registering.

We’d like to express our deepest sympathy and condolences to all those who have been personally affected by the virus, and encourage you all to take proper precautions given the current situation.

وَإِذَا مَرِضْتُ فَهُوَ يَشْفِينِ

“And when I am ill, it is He who cures me.” [Qur’an 26:80]

May Allah SWT protect you and your families. Jazakallahu Khairan!
