As we all know the holy month of Ramadan is fast approaching. Insh’Allah, this year it will start during the second week of August. With this month of generosity, we are given many opportunities to bring the community together and perform good deeds for the sake of AllahSWT; one easy way to do that is to provide food for those who fast.
The Prophet (saws) was asked which was the best type of charity, he (saws) replied, "The charity of Ramadan (or given during Ramadan)." [Tirmidhi]
The Prophet (saws) said: "Whoever gives someone something to break the fast with, he would have The same blessings as the fasting person and this would not reduce the blessings of the fasting person in any way. " [Ahmad and Tirmidhi]
Nueces Mosque provides iftaars every night during Ramadan to the UT student and downtown Austin community, most of whom live away from their families. Last year, the iftaars were a success with many brothers and sisters attending each night.
To accommodate the increasing cost of food and attendance, each iftaar will cost approximately $600.00, which includes food and drinks for those in attendance.
You can cover an entire iftaar by sponsoring a night. If it is out of your budget to sponsor an entire iftaar, you are more than welcome to co-sponsor an iftaar. No donation is too small.
Nueces Mosque is also sponsoring the MSA Welcome Iftaar on the UT campus in conjunction with the Muslims Students Association. This is an extraordinary form of da’wah to the 51,000 plus students that attend UT. These iftaars attract a lot of people so we ask for larger donation for this day.
This September, Nueces Mosque will be hosting its second annual Open House to bring together Muslims and Non-Muslims and learn about the rich culture of Ramadan as well as the importance of Islam in the lives of Muslims. Together we will learn critical concepts of Islam and end with a delicious meal complimented with each others' good company to encourage stronger feelings of brotherhood and community. Because of the huge turnout, we expect the cost for the Open House to also be higher, however the cost for either of these events can be split up among donors.
While Nueces Mosque will accept and be in gratitude for any amount of donation, the real reward in donating for the sake of Allah SWT lies with Him and is immeasurable.
