The Mosque on Nueces St. was established in March 1977 by the Muslim Student Association at the University of Texas. It was the first mosque in Austin and was named the Islamic Center of Greater Austin (ICGA). The mosque started in a 2000 sq. ft. building without any parking spaces. It was expanded in 1982 with the purchase of an adjacent building that was remodeled into a prayer hall. It was here that Peace Elementary School, the first accredited full-time Islamic School in Austin, was established. It was here that the Muslim community in Austin grew and flourished. From 1982 until 1999, the Muslim community was barely able to manage its activities in those two buildings. By the mercy of Allah (SWT) and the generous support of the local and outside communities, in November 1999, ICGA moved into a larger and more hospitable facility on Manor Road, which houses a mosque and a full-time Islamic school.

The facilities on Nueces St. became a separate mosque for use primarily by students and the downtown community. After the establishment of the Executive Committee in 2007, it was renamed as Nueces Mosque and became part of the ICGA umbrella of organizations. In the recent years since formation of the Executive Committee, Nueces Mosque has gone through major renovations and continues to be improved by the will of Allah (SWT), as well as with the constant support of the community at large.
